At most restaurants, dessert is the afterthought to a great meal. At Tuttamore Café (7555 W. Sand Lake Road, 407-352-2033) the meal is really just an excuse to head for the gelato counter.
Gelato, ice cream's richer, tastier Italian cousin, is lower in fat (less than 8 percent versus ice cream's 14-24 percent), sugar and air. But the rich imported flavors mixed into this confection right on premises will have you swearing off the Edy's. Imagine a creamy serving of hazelnut, Amaretto or chocolate, pecan and caramel "turtle," or a cup of the wine and egg custard called zabaglione. Try a cone of mango or banana sorbetto, made from fruit, water, sugar and nothing else. Oh yeah, they have a menu of pasta, entrees and sandwiches too. But you'll be looking at the mint chocolate chip while you eat.
