Spread the word
I just wanted to let you know how much we Planned Parenthood folks love the "Immaculate deception" article `Feb. 26`. You provided a very clear, transparent picture of this troublesome program `crisis pregnancy centers` and its proponents. We are going to be hand-delivering copies to many of our allies in the state Legislature, who I'm sure will appreciate your journalism as much as we do.

Sounds to me like my man in the House, Scott Plakon, is doing an amazing job! `"Immaculate deception," Feb. 26`. Not sure I see where and why a line is crossed between church and state when Planned Parenthood, which is clearly getting millions of dollars in governmental support, is hailed as the white flag carriers.
I applaud the work of Rep. Plakon and hope his continued efforts represent the more life-minded voters in the state.
The broader and more offensive part of what Scott Plakon said is that stereotypes `of parental roles` are the reasons why he opposes gay adoption. Leave it to the real "pro-lifer" to deny children loving two-parent homes because he thinks they "need" stereotypical role models, and to be tossed in the air or stared at. That's what I found truly maddening about this sorry excuse for a state representative. I also thought it was pretty awful that he spends all this time on pressuring and coercing women to continue their pregnancies, and then makes fun of an attentive mother by saying, "I've got things to do!" Isn't that just perfect? You'd better continue that pregnancy, lady, but man, is it annoying when you stare at your baby like that.
What would Jesus do?
I am writing in response to your Feb. 19 Happytown™ article, in which you state, "The passage of Amendment 2 — and Proposition 8 in California — `codifies` hate and discrimination to the delight of the Christian bellies that require them."
I am a Christian and I voted against Amendment 2. This may surprise some of you, but not all Christians are alike! We don't all hate gay people or want to pass laws so they can't marry. In fact, hating anyone goes directly against the commandment of Jesus himself, who said, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:31). He also commanded that we are not to judge others: "Judge not, that ye be not judged" (Matthew 7:1) and "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."
I appeal to all Christians, please follow the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and do not allow our reputation as Christians to be hate-mongering and judgmental. This is wrong and goes directly against the teachings of our Lord. I also think that if these gay-hating Christians spent even a fraction of their time and effort on something worthwhile instead, such as feeding the hungry or helping the sick — things Jesus would do — then it would make a huge positive difference in the world.
And I truly hope that the writers of the Orlando Weekly will realize that Christian-bashing is not any different from gay-bashing, because not all Christians are alike.

Kill 'em quicker
You asked if the state of Florida just killed an innocent man `"Death in the afternoon," Feb. 19`. The answer is no. I'm sorry it took the state so long to get rid of this trash. They should have killed years ago, instead of spending our tax money feeding him. So don't talk for the rest of the people out here.

Please hug Billy
Eliminate Blister `Letters, Feb. 12`? The thought hurts my soul! The weekly ingesting of Billy's musings on life, love and debauchery is what keeps me going. Billy is a combination of sage, community organizer and personal savior. And Blister is his gospel. The world owes Billy a great big hug for his contribution to our city's literary relevance!

Our dear Buddy
Thanks for showing another side of Dear Leader `"Chairman Buddy," Feb. 12`. Seriously, local politics is not well-covered here. We need more reporting like this.
