Chef Bruno Zacchini’s Pizza Bruno is open, Garden Café is closed, plus more in local foodie news 

Maitland is about to up its restaurant game. In addition to Brandon McGlamery's restaurant going into the now-gutted SoNapa Grille/Steak & Ale building, the under-construction Maitland City Centre will feature a Mesa 21 (also opening in Ivanhoe Village in October) and a food hall by DoveCote Brasserie chef Clay Miller. The food hall will be anchored by a full-service restaurant by Miller serving New England coastal cuisine. Expect a mid-2018 opening.

Miller's other restaurant, DoveCote Brasserie, will open on the ground floor of the Bank of America building on July 11 ... 1921 by Norman Van Aken will open at the end of July. I got a sneak peek and it's going to be a stunner ... Kimchi's Korean Grill will open on Michigan Street next to Hungry Howie's ... Jimotti's Restaurant, by former Morimoto Asia head sushi chef Junichi Takazoe, has opened in Sanford ... Look for the Taste of the Yucatan on State Road 436 north of Curry Ford Road ... Another Zoes Kitchen will open soon in the Market at Southside on South Orange Avenue and Michigan Street ... Mesa21 will open its first location of the planned three in Clermont on July 13 ... Pizza Bruno, by chef Bruno Zacchini of Third Wave in New Smyrna Beach, is in soft open on Curry Ford Road near Conway.

CLOSINGS
Garden Café, the long-standing vegetarian Chinese restaurant on Colonial Drive, has closed ... The Elephant Bar near the Mall at Millenia has closed.

EVENTS
Chefs Kevin Fonzo and Jamie McFadden stage a benefit barbecue July 10 in support of the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida. Chefs taking part in Food & Wine Unite Orlando include the Rusty Spoon, the Boathouse, 1921 by Norman Van Aken, Spanish River Grill, Swine & Sons, chef Tim Keating, Gezellig Cookies, Quantum Leap Winery, the Courtesy Bar and many more ... The next installment of the Coop's Chef Series is June 29, with James Petrakis making "campfire monkfish wrapped in country ham" and John Rivers making "brisket and grits." The event is free ... Chef Bernard Carmouche and Stag's Leap Winery present a five-course paired dinner featuring local seafood, meat and produce Thursday, June 30, at Two Chefs Seafood Oyster Bar. Cost is $95 ... Ten10 Brewery celebrates the Fourth early – July 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. – with craft beer, hot dogs and donuts.
