Our favorite recent news item comes from What the *#?!, a newsletter aimed at theme-park workers and published by Service Employees International Union Local 362. According to their account, a supervisor at the Magic Kingdom on June 6 sent several hourly workers into a closed-down Space Mountain looking for "anything unusual." The workers didn't know it at the time, but it seems the park had received an anonymous bomb threat, possibly relating to that day's Gay Day event. During the 20-minute search, one worker even kicked a "suspicious-looking bag," but nothing was found.
Management initially refused to acknowledge the search. "Then they said, ‘Well, the hourly workers would be the best to know what is out of the ordinary or unusual,'" said the report.
Safety first, huh?
