Blessed cravings satisfied here


One of my favorite wandering places in Winter Park is Katmandu on Morse Boulevard, where I indulge my craving for tiny statues of Hindu gods. I have yet to discover which deity protects one from ice-cream addiction, because right next door is a superb repository of creamy confections, Herman's Ice Cream Shoppe (122 E. Morse Blvd.; 407-647-6961).

Formerly Thomas Sweet's, Herman's offers a full menu of sandwiches and salads, including saut?ed spinach and portobello mushroom panini with three cheeses; a smoked turkey and Brie sandwich on sourdough; and the appealing "luau salad" with avocado, mango and orange and a raspberry-pepper dressing.

But the ice cream -- strawberry that tastes fresh-picked, mango sorbet with real fruit, mint chip with crunchy chunks of bittersweet chocolate, blueberry, coconut -- will make you ... (insert Homer Simpson gurgle here).
