Knead to know: Nigel's bread

There are secret treasures in Orlando. One of them is the as-yet-undiscovered delight of Nigel's Bread & Butter Cafe (110 N. Bumby Ave.; 407-896-2633).

Owned by Nigel Kendall, who's been gracing the farmers' markets in Winter Park and Celebration with homemade breads for the past five years, the B&B Cafe epitomizes "organic" and "hand-crafted" with racks of French baguettes, Middle-Eastern lavash, Caribbean coconut bread, Russian "cherniy" (rye) bread and dense German loaves. About half of the breads are made by Nigel, with focaccia and organic sunflower bread coming from local specialty bakers, such as Big Sky Bread Company.

Organic pizzas made with thick crusty dough, simmered soups and fresh sandwiches round out the offerings. As Nigel says, "People gotta eat," and everything is worth eating. Make a visit before word gets out.
