DVDs Nuts!
Lesser-seen OW-approved titles

The Cake Eaters Kristen Stewart once again proves she’s worlds above her current Twilight material with this winning, if slight, film, which finally sees the DVD light after years of making the festival rounds (including last year’s Florida Film Festival). (R)

Eden Log Falling somewhere between the existential sci-fi of Pitch Black and an industrial Little Shop of Horrors, this French post-apocalyptic sewer nightmare has major flaws but is worth a look for its director, Franck Vestiel, whose evocative and mobile camera promises great potential. (R)

Good Dick Anyone who’s worked in a typical video store, with its stunted man-child employees and the regulars they keep tabs on based on rental patterns and/or hotness, knows there’s a thin line between oddball clerk and creepy loser. This hormonal fantasy stampedes that line with blunt humor and straightforward charm. (R)

Nothing But the Truth/What Doesn’t Kill You If you’re like us and wondered what ever happened to writer-director Rod Lurie after his last (only?) good movie, 2000’s The Contender, take heart: He’s doing just fine in B-movie world. Last year, he helmed Truth, a mediocre-but-entertaining thriller that dares to recast the shameful Judith Miller–Robert Novak saga as an against-all-odds tale of a brave reporter in the form of plucky Kate Beckinsale. He also produced What Doesn’t Kill You, a Donnie Wahlberg-scripted (you read that right) stereotypical Boston crime drama with laughable guilty-pleasure moments throughout. On the other hand, Lurie just landed the Straw Dogs remake, so he must be doing something very right. (R)

Tell No One This dazzling 2006 French thriller about a man who realizes he is a suspect in the tragic disappearance of his wife after eight years have gone by is an edge-of-your-seat labyrinth of chases, romance and genuine puzzlement. (NR)
