The Last Sin Eater

The Last Sin Eater

Rated:PG-13
Studio:FoxFaith
Director:Michael Landon, Jr.
Cast:Henry Thomas, Liana Liberato, Peter Wingfield, Elizabeth Lackey
Release Date:2007
Genre:Drama
Our Rating:

This almost-unwatchable film pokes a holier-than-thou finger at nutty superstitions like bread-and-wine rituals that, thanks to the suffering of one man, allow people to be absolved of their sins. The catch? This is a pro-Christian movie! Directed by Michael Landon Jr.! Mocking the “backward” spiritual ways of hardscrabble mountain folk in the mid-19th century, The Last Sin Eater goes a long way to make it clear that the only real way to get your sins forgiven is to — well, to participate in a bread-and-wine ritual in which you thank one man for being willing to suffer for your eternal soul. With the ripe imagery offered by the long-running sin-eater mythologies to pick from, it’s stunning how flat and lifeless this film is, and we won’t even talk about the chintzy special effects. Another cynical God-market outing from the folks at Fox Faith.

This review, besides sounding openly hostile to people who have any religious beliefs, was thoroughly unhelpful.  I learned nothing about the plot or characters.  I suppose this review had the opposite effect intended by its intemperate author--it was so poorly written that I now must go out and see the movie to see what it's about.

What a horrible review.  I didn't really expect for the reviews to rave about what a great movie this is.  Reviews rarely do, especially for anything that has even a hint of faith in them.  This review is ridiculous.

Besides your usual "it's a Christian-based film" (automatic) scoffing, you forgot your usual "Bush-bashing" reference. Oh....but it would have gotten a great (automatic) review if there was some "artsey-fartsey" take involved, such as blasphey or homosexuality. This rag is more one-sided than a boat being rowed by a one-armed man.......

Christian movies make me want to vomit.  I think that this review told me everything I need to know.  I don't get why people are expected to tolerate the stupid pandering that companies like Fox Faith are trying to perpetrate, simply because they invoke religion.  Get over it.  Your religion is a bunch of dumb fairy tales that nobody with more than an elementary education can take seriously.  Media that panders to your childish beliefs is insulting to those of us that don't share your infantile obsessions with an imaginary monster that lives in the clouds.  And I think it's totally appropriate to say so. It's one thing to tolerate people believing in ridiculous things.  It's another thing altogether to have to pretend to be sympathetic to those delusions, just because you call it "religion".

Unfortunately those elementary kids probably have more sense.  Or maybe we should teach them nothing = everything.  :)

How can u say that? Just because you have no life but to go through reviews commenting on other people's life. I mean come on. Your just as low as the guy who made this stupid review. You should give some examples in the review not put stuff that you make up, just to get ur work done.

"Your religion is a bunch of dumb fairy tales that nobody with more than an elementary education can take seriously." Are you talking about apocalyptic man-made global warming?  If so, I agree.

I didn't get much out of this review.  Thankfully, I subscribe to screenit.com and learned a whole lot more.  The sin-eater is not a reference to Christ but to a live human being who "eats" ones sin. Someone does come to town and preach about Jesus, not an easy thing to do in this day and age either!

I'm sorry, did I miss the information on the movie's plot?It appears to me that the reviewer has a lot of pent-up hostility.I think he needs a hug, some rest, and to try to writing this review again.

To those who harbor anger toward Christian beliefs:  Where would our world be without them?  They are the foundation of much of our legal system.  They are reflected in the constitution and on the facias of many of our government buildings  They teach the values that make western world what it is. Take them away and you have societies such as the ones that just barely function in the middle east.  Perhaps you should go and live there and see the results of the lack of Christian values.

In response to Anonymous who states that Christianity is based on dumb fairy tales. You have your opinion, it's allright. If you had a child or have a child who tells you that he/she thinks you are stupid and that they hate you. Do you still not love that child? Yes, and God loves you even more, because you are his child, and a lamb that has strayed. How dreadfully sad you must truly be.

Haha the Christian 'right' are out in force.  Probably just one person with too much time on their hands.  This movie is at 20% on Rotten Tomatoes - face it - IT IS HORRIBLE so there really is nothing to talk about.  FoxFaith?!?  I never knew they existed.  Probably won't for long now with turds like this!
