Our Rating:

When a blizzard traps them in an airport on Christmas Eve, a wacky quintet of adolescents wreak havoc on bumbling security and managerial types. In this idiotic crowd-pleaser, each kid represents a pubescent John Hughes stereotype: the straightforward one, the brainy (and token black) one, the fat one, the outlaw wiseass and the Lindsay Lohan–type rich princess (who’s secretly a bespectacled nerd — gasp!). Oddly, the movie’s saccharine Christmas-spirit schmaltz is tempered with a curiously hip pedigree; it’s executive-produced by Ira Glass and peppered with semistars from The Daily Show, Kids in the Hall and The Office. It’s hard to figure this casting logic, since this film’s demographic is easily sated youngsters who have yet to grow jaded by too many kicked-in-the-nuts gags. And for a movie funded by an NPR personality, it also has a nasty anti-environmentalist streak. As the Grinch-like villain, look for Lewis Black to appear every now and then, do his thing and collect a paycheck.
