Three-day music and camping fest to raise money for an outdoor classroom at the Wekiwa Springs State Park
Organizer Don Philpott is British and it’s his tongue-in-cheek humor that comes through in the press-release reference to this three-day concert becoming as famous as Woodstock – it’s a joke, people. (Though it will have mud and music.) What we have here is an experiment of another sort, an expansion of the monthly concerts that the Wekiwa Wilderness Trust has found to be successful in raising money. Philpott is president of the WWT, a 100-member-strong citizens’ support group that provides volunteer energy and fundraising efforts for the upkeep of the Wekiva River Basin park complex (Rock Springs, Wekiwa Springs, Lower Wekiva River Preserve). From this event, the proceeds are earmarked for a new outdoor environmental classroom at Wekiwa Springs. There are about 10 Central Florida bands on the bill – from the Ta Ta’s to Lost Time Accident – who’ll take turns on stage. The $15 ticket is a bargain, buying admission for the whole weekend plus camping and parking.
