Nobody gets down like the Brazilians, and funk carioca act Bonde do Role didn’t become a sensation for their intellect or taste. No, the celebratory ball of Miami bass, spiky guitars and tropical heat has conquered the dance scene through sheer hedonism. Their songs are gloriously bottomed-out celebrations of the bawdier things in life and their shows are absurd, titty-bouncing affairs. After the departure of charismatic MC Marina Ribatski in December, they’ve plugged the hole with two new ladies: Laura Taylor and Ana Bernardino. This will be Orlando’s first live glimpse of their revamped lineup. Sharing the bill and equally worthy of attention is Australian transplant the Death Set, who deals in an unleashed, synth-pumped brand of hardcore. Benefiting from the Baltimore setting the dance punks now call home, their overdriven Casio anthems throb with that blissful Wham City insanity. This one-two is a knockout party lineup.

A sort of drunker, meaner uncle to today’s Comedy Central politi-comedy crossover kings – Messrs. Stewart and Colbert – Bill Maher’s heart-on-sleeve snide-swipes focus more on how dangerously ridiculous current events are than how “funny” they can be. That’s what makes him so great: just knowing that in a stand-up situation, the old lady sitting next to you is probably pretending to laugh while being secretly offended by Maher’s laundry list of social complaints – religion (hates it!), gay marriage (loves it!), 9/11 cowardice (lost a job over it!). In addition to his Real Time vetting circles on HBO, Maher is currently working with director Larry Charles (Borat) on Religulous, a film that already has the best title ever. But his stand-up remains his calling card, even though some could argue that he works better in a moderated format. Just sayin’. Expect plenty of uncomfortable old ladies, as this stop finds him in the cultural epicenter of, uh, Melbourne.

Leisha Hailey is the type of girl that follows even the slightest whim – she dabbled in acting on The L Word and messed with folk-pop in the ’90s with the band the Murmurs – and her music reflects a certain restlessness. Together with multitalented beauty Camila Grey, she formed a Metric-style electropop duo last year called Uh Huh Her, which takes its name from a PJ Harvey album. The result, last year’s eclectic I See Red, is a forceful wall of estrogen that only takes seriously its very lack of seriousness. This is music for anxious nights at the beach, the kind of youthful relentlessness where one person’s night of booze and pithy conjecture is later remembered as the night their emotional world tilted. In other words, if the music supervisors of Gossip Girl haven’t called yet, someone’s fired.

It’s been about a year since the Drunken Monkey Coffee Bar opened its doors, and that it’s still standing in a city that boasts no less than four fair-trade/organic/vegetarian coffee- and tea-houses within a 10-mile radius is no small achievement. Perhaps it’s a testament to the appeal of fair trade offerings, or proof that Orlando residents can’t get enough coffee, tea or veggie chips. The Fair Trade for a Greater Orlando Coalition is banking on the former, transplanting its World Fair Trade Day to the Drunken Monkey parking lot this year – one of several annual efforts to educate the community about fair trade. To that end, they’ve lined up a respectable roster of local mini-celebs: S.K.I.P., Mumpsy, the Token Gamblers and Matt Butcher will perform, and the Solilla Center for Creative Kids will entertain the younguns. Organic food will be offered, along with arts and crafts vendors who welcome consumers who want to buy local, if not

Only two months ago we were kvetching about the corporatized claustrophobia of Nude Nite – where, we whined, can a porn-appreciating arts patron experience creative kink without the pocket-picking pretension? Lewd Night looks like the answer to our pervy prayers. Susan Elizabeth curates this third annual “obscenity disguised as an art show” at AKA Lounge on Saturday night. Expect visual and performance art assured to offend even the most anesthetized aesthete. If the works we’ve seen by artists Franklin Ratliff (originally rejected by Nude Nite’s jury) and Nyahzul are any indication, Lewd Night looks ready to take NSFW to a whole new level.

Bigger cities may have an unfair lock on hosting the premieres of the top Hollywood films, but only Orlando will enjoy the honor of launching the latest wild comedy to be distributed by National Lampoon. Distributed to where? Don’t bother us with details. Just get ready to hook up a 100-proof IV drip of Robodoc, in which a mechanical MD is said to thwart the schemes of a lawsuit-crazed malpractice attorney. Yes, it’s take-no-prisoners topicality all the way for this gutsy new flick produced by the Universal-based Gordon-Tynes Productions and boasting supporting turns by (catch your breath, now) Alan Thicke, David Faustino of Married … With Children and ubiquitous noisemaker Michael Winslow. With credits like those, you had better wear your cleanest scrubs to the big shindig, just in case a photog for Vanity Fair shows up.

When a group has won multiple Grammys over the course of 40 years, as well as had their songs covered by artists ranging from the Clash to Amy Winehouse, and they hold the record for most No. 1 singles in their home country of Jamaica, they’ve earned the right to relax. That’s never been the plan, however, for reggae pioneer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert and his countless backing musicians. The rock-steady crew has always found a special muse in popular music and, in the last few years alone, has seen the favor returned. Their Grammy-winning 2005 outing, True Love, was aided by guest musicians including Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Ben Harper and the Roots. Whether through sheer luck or determination, most of the original members are still around, so this show is a rare chance to see genuine legends without musical-chairs bastardization. The Maytals and Stephen Marley take the stage on the second and final day of the annual Bob Marley Reggae Fest at CityWalk – though the organizers couldn’t tell us exactly what time.
