Plunder the vault this weekend
Cryptacize
Since I KNOW our music-y readers will be spending their weekend at Rollins for WPRK Palooza, the annual fundraiser for our favorite local college radio station, which starts at noon and goes into the night, you should plan on trekking back out the next morning to Park Ave CDs.
Nothing gets rid of that wine and coffee-masked-with-the-taste-of-a-sheet-cake hangover like a good music sale. From 11am - 4pm this Sunday, WPRK will be fire-selling some choice selections from their monstrous vault. So check it out.
As for Palooza, it'll be a fun gathering as always, I'm sure, but I'm divided on the headliners. Philly indie bears Pattern Is Movement strikes me as a little too much everything to be distinctly anything, and Cryptacize is sweet in that Asthmatic Kitty kind of way, but look out for Canada's Destroyer. (That's the band Destroyer and they're from Canada. Not, like, they want to destroy Canada. Though that would be a pretty great band name itself.) They deliver cerebral rock with a touch of Velvet Underground. Plus they actually play guitars, which stuff like this really needs. (Hey local bands, got some news or music for us to check out? Let us know at localmusic@orlandoweekly.com.)
