What You're Doing This Week

Alright, people. This week, we're gonna do this a little differently. Instead of a few great things on just a couple nights of the week, I'm going to pick ONE awesome thing for EVERY night of the week. Even Monday.

Thursday, April 23

  • The Ludes are opening up for Electric Six and the Living Things. While I tend to champion local bands to an often-annoying level, I can say wholeheartedly that the Ludes will deliver a classic-rock ass-kicking far beyond what the headliners can muster up ... and given the live power of the headliners, that's no mean feat. [The Social]

Friday, April 24

  • You think I'm gonna say to go see Torche, right? Or P-Funk? Oh, you know me so well! However, you are wrong. One, Torche is stuck opening up for Dredg, a band I just CANNOT advocate for. (The world only needs one Tool.) Two, there's a couple of shitkickers known as Cashman from Tennessee who indulge in blues-trash awesomeness that's 40% distortion, 30% groove, 20% mess and 10% a song called "Whiskey Weed and Women." Oh yeah. That's the one. [Will's Pub, duh]

Saturday, April 25

  • God I miss The Punching Contest so much. Spazzy. Loud. Unpredictable. Wonderful. REUNITED! Hot damn! Khann and Watch Me Disappear open. This is, without a doubt, the show of the week. [Will's Pub]

Sunday, April 26

  • It's the "White Trash Bash" with the Goldminers. Yes, there will be PBR on hand. [Will's Pub]
Monday, April 27
Tuesday, April 28

  • Ditto on Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. (By the way, these guys have been back here three times since I was promised that Carla Kihlstedt would do a 2 Foot Yard show ... oh, the promises broken!) [The Social]

Wednesday, April 29

  • The wobbly, wonderful indie pop of the Pauses just keeps getting better and better (although, I must admit, I'm a bit puzzled by my buddy Bao's enthusiasm for them; doesn't really seem like his brand of whiskey). Anyway, this show – with Great Deceivers, the Tape Delay and Grey Market - is a far better expenditure of funds than the "oh-him-again" Cursive show. (The Independents are also playing tonight, but I'm not predicting a whole lot of audience crossover here. [Back Booth]

There's more to my repertoire than country, hard rock and, um, freestyle.
