What is this laboriously-named feature? Well, I figured every once in a while (every time I promise something will be once-a-week I totally get bogged down or lose interest and then I'm a liar) I'll post a song from some local band, DJ, rapper, solo guy/gal who really caught my ear at some point in my hours of trolling MySpace or whatever. I urge everyone to pass it on and get back word to said featured artist so they can tell their people, and it all works like a big circle jerk. Got it?
For our premiere outing, I've put the focus on Orlando trio Magnet Club, originally a side project from weirdo artiste Omar Delarosa (of Matisse & Carrots awesomeness). Their lo-fi pop morsels are the perfect snack size and keep the melodies very simple in order to effectively lay a foundation for stories of hipster love and, well, whatever else pops into their brains.
This one, "Let It Snow In Orlando," which is about exactly what the title suggests, contains an infuriatingly catchy hook, one I KNOW I've heard in an '80s no-wave jam but totally can't place right now. I can't even think of one single lyric from it! Anyway, if it strikes anyone else, PLEASE email me. jstrout@orlandoweekly.com or music@orlandoweekly.com. Not saying they ripped it off, I just really want to hear that '80s song again.
Anyway, enjoy Magnet Club:
