As a group of six rowdy 20-somethings, the Underhill Family Orchestra is awfully good at what they do. As their recent debut album, Stories of Appalachia Proper, showcases, the sextet finds a balance between soul, rock & roll and a contemporary country sound, and not like the lousy-yet-popular mainstream "country" music nowadays. Think Lady Antebellum but way less pop, way less annoying and a lot more folk and rock. The self-proclaimed "orchestra" is joined by the Sh-Booms, Chakra Khan and 27 other acts at a special Soul Fried Sunday: The annual multi-venue blowout takes place at Will's Pub and St. Matthew's Tavern this year. Event organizers have teamed up with the GLBT Center, and proceeds fund long-term mental health counseling for Pulse survivors, staff and the families of the victims. It's a win-win.
