Last week, a 1,255 pound mother manatee, along with her calf and an orphaned manatee, were rescued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission authorities and taken to SeaWorld care facilities.

Due to obvious impact scars, SeaWorld says the mother manatee was struck by a boat near Ormond Beach and has shown some progress over the past week. The company says her status has improved but they "remain guarded," according to a press release. The mother's calf is recovering fine.

However the orphaned calf, which was found near Satellite Beach, needed "immediate nutrimental support" and is still under 24 hour watch.

So far this year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued 11 manatees and returned 13 to the wild.
