Ted Cruz suspends his campaign, leaves GOP nomination to part-time Florida man

After losing the Indiana Republican primary, Ted Cruz ended his presidential aspirations Tuesday night, leaving billionaire and part-time Florida man Donald Trump's path to the GOP nomination clear.

The Associated Press reports that despite Cruz's argument that he was the only true conservative in the 2016 presidential race, he couldn't beat Trump's appeal to white, working-class voters.

"It appears that path has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters, according to the AP. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, the other Republican left to compete for the GOP nomination, got 7.6 percent of the Republican votes in the Indiana primary, but is reportedly not quitting, according to CNN
