Like all major entertainment companies, Disney is constantly surveying guests. Many of the concepts from these surveys are never realized beyond the simple survey question, but that’s not stopping Disney fans from being outraged over a question posed on a recent survey.

Disney recently sent out a survey that inquired about a possible $15 per day resort fee for overnight guests. The survey listed amenities covered under the possible resort fee, including things like the Magical Express bus from MCO and Extra Magic Hours in the parks, which are both currently included in the hotel room costs.

The resorts mentioned in the question are both Deluxe (the highest cost category) properties at Walt Disney World.

Resort fees are nothing new in the Orlando market. The Swan and Dolphin, which sits on Disney property but is owned and operated by an outside company, has resort fees as does the Waldorf Astoria and the Grand Cypress resort.

At Universal, the resorts have no specific resort fee, but they do charge for parking, tube rentals in the pools and for high speed Wi-Fi.

Disney World has seen many price increases lately with the most extreme being the new demand-based pricing for their theme parks. One day tickets now range in price from $97 (for a ‘Value’ day at Epcot, DHS or DAK) to $124 (for a ‘Peak’ day at Magic Kingdom). According to Disney, the new crowd calendar-based tickets are a way to help better spread out crowds.
Other recent price increases at Walt Disney World have included a minimal increase to the Disney Dining Plan and increases for many items inside the parks.

Loews, who operates the resorts at Universal Orlando, has also recently been rumored to be looking at a nightly resort fee, leaving some to speculate that the resort fee question on the Disney survey was a reaction to that.

As of now, neither resort has instituted any type of nightly resort fee.
