As we anxiously await the cooler months here in the Sunshine State, it’s a little too early to truly celebrate the seasonal shift with boots, scarves and bonfires. However, that won’t stop us from toasting with fall-inspired libations around town. Here a few of our favorite seasonal cocktails available right now in the Orlando area.
Pumpkin lovers can rejoice over at Prato in Winter Park with their seasonal cocktail, the Rumpkin, a blend of house-made pumpkin puree shrub, Dolin vermouth, Zaya Gran Reserva rum, and aromatic bitters with an orange twist. This is a great cocktail if you love pumpkin, but aren’t quite basic enough to want it to overpower the overall taste of your drink. It’s currently on the menu through Thanksgiving, for $11.
If pumpkin isn’t your thing, the Ravenous Pig is making delicious use of another fall favorite from the cornucopia with their seasonal cocktail, the Autumn Buzz: butternut squash puree, Angostura 7 year rum, apple brandy, Fernet syrup, lemon and blackstrap rum. Get it now while you can for $12 until their bar staff gets inspired by something else this season.
Giving us an early glimpse into the fall family dinner table, Avenue has concocted a liquid version of sweet potato casserole with Crop Harvest Organic Spiced Pumpkin Vodka, Baileys Irish Cream and a house-made sweet potato syrup. Served with only one ice cube and lightly dusted with nutmeg, this drink could be dangerously easy to throw back one after another. Available starting in October for $8.
The Woods, in downtown Orlando, is known for changing up their cocktail selection every month, so it’s no surprise they’ve added some seasonal flair beginning Oct. 1. Their “Thornapple” drink is unapologetically potent, with Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, Berentzen pear liqueur, Campari, granny smith apple simple syrup, apple bitters and Old Fashioned bitters, garnished with fresh apple slices. This drink is not for the faint of heart. Available for $12 from Oct. 1 through Halloween.
Boca Kitchen Bar and Market
Boca Kitchen and Bar’s Pumpkin Pie (pictured at top) is a seasonal cocktail on steroids: Captain Morgan spiced rum, Trader Vic's macadamia nut liqueur, house-made apple cider syrup, whipped cream and pumpkin puree, with a caramel graham cracker and brown sugar rim, topped off with a Pirouette cookie. This drink might just double as a dessert. It's $12, available through Thanksgiving.
