Winter Haven resident Reinaldo Fernandez accidentally alerted Polk County Sheriff's deputies to his grow house Monday, Sept. 14, after setting it on fire.
According to 10News
, the fire was started by an illegal electrical tap, which is often used so keep marijuana grower's high electricity use off the grid.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, Fernandez was desperately trying to put out the blaze and save his 33 mature marijuana plants and grow equipment.
Once the fire was extinguished, PCSO detectives discovered the illegal plants.
Fernandez has been charged with First Degree Arson, Cultivation of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Own/Rent a Structure Known to Manufacture Drugs.
