A man accused of being "fixated" on a female wrestler was shot at the WWE Performance Center in Azalea Park, Monday afternoon, August 31.

According to WFTV, two nearby plain-clothes deputies responded to a trespassing call at the facility, which is near Colonial Drive and Forsyth Road, at around 1:30 p.m. Orange County Sheriff Jerry Deming told WFTV that the suspect claimed he had a knife and then proceeded to charge at the officers, who then fired a single shot.

Deming went on to say that the 29-year-old suspect had confronted officers on multiple occasions (this was the third time in 30 days) and that he had a fixation with a certain female wrestler– so much so, that the wrestling facility had to hire off-duty police officers as extra security.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was arrested on August 4 for trespassing.

WWE sent out the following statement regarding the shooting:

“Unfortunately a deranged individual with no WWE affiliation, who had a court order prohibiting him from being on WWE property, was involved in an incident with an Orange County Sherriff’s deputy in the parking lot of the WWE Performance Center. We defer to the Orange County Sherriff’s department for further comment and information.”

The suspect was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with a life-threatening gunshot wound, reports WESH
