Jeff Ashton, state attorney for Orange-Osceola County, admitted Sunday his use of the extramarital-affairs website Ashley Madison.

“These were incredibly stupid choices,” he said, according to USA TODAY. “I ask for the public’s forgiveness for my shortcomings.”

After the East Orlando Post broke the news on Saturday, the Casey Anthony prosecutor said at a press conference he used his personal credit card and personal email address to sign up for the website two years ago, but that he never had an affair and “no laws have been broken” in his use of the website.

A tearful Ashton also said he signed onto the site while at work, but used his personal laptop and the public Wi-Fi network.

"I deeply regret my affiliation with the site, which has caused a great amount of stress and heartache to my wife and children. I want to publicly apologize to each of them for this embarrassment and for my blatant disregard for their feelings...While I indulged my curiosity about the site, it never went beyond that.”

Ashton joins millions of Ashley Madison members, including other government officials, whose personal information was released to the public after a hack.
