One of the more obnoxious trends in social media these days is the desire to criticize people who care about an issue by placing it next to another, unrelated issue and asking: Why are people so outraged about [NEW THING PEOPLE ARE POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT]? Where is the outrage over [OLDER THING THAT PEOPLE ARE STILL POSTING ABOUT BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR MY LIKING]?

If you care about the illegal killing of Cecil the Lion by a dickbag bounty hunter dentist, then you clearly don't care enough about the thing that pushed everyone's outrage button last week. Because obviously, you are too stupid to care about more than one thing at once.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio jumped on the "where's the outrage" bandwagon this week, telling his followers that he's outraged that there's so much outrage over a "dead lion," when he wants more outrage over "planned parenthood dead babies."

On July 29, he sent the following tweet:

If you read Rubio's statement at face value, it's basically saying that outrage over Cecil the Lion is wasted, because it's not compassion for "planned parenthood dead babies," which um ... oh, that's a whole other discussion. But unless you really are emotionally and intellectually stunted, you can show compassion and outrage for more than one thing at a time. Maybe some people, like Rubio, don't understand this because they, personally, can't? (If so, does that mean Rubio doesn't care about the dead lion at all? Not even a little?)

But then there's this whole issue about "dead babies." First, abortion is legal in the United States. Abortion is legal in the United States. Abortion is legal in the United States. Abortion is legal in the United States. This is not a "dead babies" issue. And if the controversy surrounding abortion in this country has shown us anything at all, it's that there's lots of outrage about abortion – more than enough to go around. It's just that not everybody buys the conservative notion that abortion should be made illegal.

So, it's actually not "dead babies" that Planned Parenthood is under fire for at all right now – it's alleged trafficking in fetal tissue, for which one state has already cleared the organization.

TMZ caught up with Rubio at the Ronald Reagan National Airport Friday. The Republican presidential candidate backed up his tweet and also stated he doesn't know anything about the Cecil situation. “I don’t know a lot about this story. Obviously there’s laws in that country, so whatever laws there were, that guy should have followed them,” said Rubio, completely glossing over the fact that abortion is legal in the United States.

"Everyone’s fired up about this tiger- or this lion– people should be more fired up about these babies that are coming out of the Planned Parenthood videos. If people are going to be outraged about an animal being killed, they should also be outraged about a human being being killed…”
