On July 30, GeekyCon, formerly known as LeakyCon, returns to the Orange County Convention Center.
The four-day event centered on all things "geeky" will feature the inaugural launching of Geeky U, “a specially designed programming series to give you the basics you need to jump into any fandom.” Feel like you are 50 years too late for the Doctor Who craze? Or are you tired of your friend constantly explaining Marvel movies to you and why it will be important three years from now? Well, here's your chance to catch up.
The new series of courses gives you the chance to learn the basics of multiple fandoms, but perhaps the most interesting event comes after all of the basics have been tied up. David Peterson, the man responsible for creating the Dothraki and Valyrian languages in Game of Thrones and author of Living Language Dothraki, is going to present a special lecture on everything that goes into creating a language.
Peterson has consulted on several shows that are on air right now and is an officer with the Language Creation Society. Expect him to mention his upcoming book, The Art of Language Invention.
The con will also feature returning internet stars such as Jon Cozart (After Ever After Disney parodies) and Team Starkid (A Very Potter Musical), and will also host Veronica Roth, author of the Divergent series.
Along with their typical panels and inaugural Geeky U, Geekycon is putting on musical performances from Harry Potter-themed bands, such as "Harry and the Potters" and "The Whomping Willows," along with YouTube idols Meghan Tonjes, Lauren Fairweather and Molly Lewis.
