Who doesn’t love a wicked good story? Especially when it’s told with acrobatics and puppets and dance and staged combat (and occasionally open flames), presented by a bunch of performers who throw themselves with gusto into their Victorian-era gypsy storyteller roles. If you haven’t yet seen a show by Phantasmagoria, a steampunk storytelling troupe created by Orlando theater maven John DiDonna, now’s a good time to head to Orlando Shakes. For three nights only, Phantasmagoria will mesmerize audiences with retellings of famous tales by Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens and even creeptastic folk tales and myths from around the world. It’s the troupe’s “best of” performance, and it features some of the most entrancing and mesmerizing tales from Phantasmagoria’s five years’ worth of performances. After this three-day engagement ends, the troupe heads to Atlanta where it’ll present a five-day workshop on storytelling, dance ensemble, puppetry and staged combat. Get your tickets now, because there’s a good chance these shows will sell out.
