Orlando's own icon of Advanced Style
, Harriett Lake, opens her closet again this week for charity. If you were unlucky enough to miss last year's massive sale
event, your second-time-lucky has just come around.
The noted local arts philanthropist is teaming up once again with Tuni's, Winter Park's best established designer boutique, for this "Second Cut Blowout Sale" (aka basically the best yard sale ever).
Lake has been a clotheshorse most of her life – we're talking about a pretty serious shopping habit here – so last year she decided to "clean out her closet" to benefit Orlando Hospital and Orlando Ballet, one of her pet arts orgs. This year's sale
benefits the Trauma Center at Orlando Health.
From our description of last year's event:
Mind you, when we say closet, we’re actually talking about a Longwood warehouse stuffed to brimming with hats, scarves, jewelry, shoes and ensembles with labels from Chanel, Yves St. Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry and Costco. (No snob she, Lake told local TV news anchor Jackie Brockington that in a fire, she’d grab her treasured “$19 Costco basic black Audrey Hepburn dress.”)
The scene at the warehouse on the first night, by all accounts, resembled a shark tank at feeding time when the chum buckets have just been tipped, except everyone was much, much prettier and so well put-together. If you find you have need for a new fur hat, a pair of Chanel flats or a little Bill Blass number, there are more than 3,000 pieces, including some new ones just added, and prices start at $5.
The sale goes 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, starting Thursday, May 28, and running through June 11. The warehouse is located at 902 Waterway Place, in Longwood, 32750. Both cash and credit cards will be accepted.
