Recently, Walt Disney World announced a list of new retailers and restaurants that have signed onto be part of Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney and parts of which were once known as Pleasure Island). There are lots of things that are neither surprising nor super-inspiring – a Tommy Bahama, a Pandora jewelers, an UGG store. But the one thing that is kind of awesome is that there will also be a Uniqlo.
Uniqlo is a Japanese retailer known for offering the most basic of basic clothes – plain T-shirts, oxford shirts, simple blazers, leggings – on the (fairly) cheap. Sort of an Ikea for clothing. Most of the company's stores on the East Coast are located in the Northeast – New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston. From what we can tell in the company's store locator, this will be the first Florida location. Hopefully the rent isn't so steep at the new Disney Springs that they jack up their prices for this location.
On May 15, Disney released some new renderings of what it hopes Disney Springs will look like when its transformation is complete. The company also released a list of new retailers and restaurants that plan to open stores and eateries in what's starting to look like a new high-end indoor/outdoor mall.
Here are the other new businesses planned for Disney Springs that were announced on May 15:
Owned by the Inditex Group, one of the world’s largest fashion retail groups. Zara is known for its men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, and how it expertly interprets current fashion and style trends of the season, delivering original designs to the consumer in a matter of weeks.
Iconic island lifestyle brand Tommy Bahama embodies relaxed sophistication. The hallmarks of this casual collection include island-inspired sportswear, denim, and swimwear for men and women in luxuriously soft silks and cottons, richly woven textures and eclectic prints.
The authentic American resort wear brand, Lilly Pulitzer, is landing in the heart of Disney and will be offering their clothing and accessories, optimistic outlook, and happy prints to those who’ve loved the brand for years and new Lilly Girls out there.
Leading global retailer UNIQLO designs, manufactures, and sells casual apparel that comes from the company’s Japanese values of simplicity, quality and longevity. The simplest design hides the most thoughtful details in clothing that is constantly being innovated to bring more warmth and lightness, better design and comfort to people’s lives.
Building on its existing relationship with Disney Parks, the popular jewelry brand offers classic yet modern charm bracelets, along with necklaces, rings and earrings, as well as a line of exclusive Disney-themed jewelry.
