All locations in Central Florida will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day and each location will have special guest appearances. Appearances include artists John Nadeau (Star Wars), Ashon Wynn, Charles Thurston and Aaron Conley (Sabretooth Swordsman). Attendees will be able to select three to four titles to take home with them and participating comics include Bob’s Burgers, Spongebob Freestyle Funnies, Teen Titans Go, Peanuts and Labyrinth. There’s something for everyone, including the kiddies, but don’t wait too late or your first choice might be snatched up already!
Living Dead Comics
3227 Curry Ford Road
There might not be a local artist appearance this year, but there will be about 50 titles to choose from. This local comic shop has been open for two years now, so be sure to pick up your free comic and support the shop by maybe purchasing an action figure or a new game.

We love Sci-Fi City! Last year, Spider-Man made an appearance and he’ll be back again this year from 9-11 a.m. Sci-Fi is so rad that they’re not only handing out free comics, but everything in the store is 30 percent off (including items that are already 20 percent off) AND all back issues are 50 cents each. Attendees are limited to eight free comics each, so swing by, meet Spider-Man and take advantage of that sweet, sweet sale – but don’t forget the freebies.

Well, it looks like Acme is going all out again this year with a few appearances from local artists (Larry “Spike” Jarrell of Monsterjunkies, Bill Marimon of DC’s Damage and Green Arrow and Jeremy Hobbs of Oops Comic Adventure) and for the kiddies (but not restricted to, of course) there will be an ice cream truck, face painting, an “instrument petting zoo” and a balloon artist. This year Acme has partnered with Maximum Entertainment Group and two of their artists will be performing live in the “Danger Room”. Performances include Mr. Harley at 11:30 a.m. and Brooke and Brie at 3 p.m. Patrons will be limited to three comic books each, but those freebies are all NEW releases from DC, Marvel, Disney and more. There is going to be a storewide sale, too, so you definitely don’t want to miss out on that. American Red Cross will be set up outside from 11-4 p.m., so donate some of that blood and get a free movie ticket while you’re at it. Acme may be a bit of a hike, but we promise it’s worth the trip.
A Comic Shop
114 S. Semoran Blvd., Winter Park
Okay, so A Comic Shop pretty much rules. Celebrate FCBD until 2 a.m. Each person gets 10 free comics, but since they’re open so late (or should I say early?), we’d recommend going at least in the middle of the day, especially if you’re planning on making rounds to all the local comic shops. Local artists will be here, giving out free sketches of your favorite characters. Attendees will also have a chance to win prizes by playing games or just showing up at the door. All of the other comic shops are pretty rad, but this one might just take the cake. A Comic Shop is hosting Free Comic Book May again this year: If you spend at least $3 each Saturday until the end of the month, you’ll be able to pick up a free first volume of a DC, Marvel or Image title. Costumes are encouraged.
Since 2002, independent comic stores all over North America have been hosting something known as Free Comic Book Day. This event brings comic book lovers together and invites new readers to rejoice in the world of comics. Free Comic Book Day takes place on the first Saturday of May every year and we can’t wait for this year’s event! There will be over 50 free titles, so there’s bound to be something you’ll enjoy. Here are a few local locations that made our list of faves:
