This union makes sense, really: One park specializes in offering people terrifyingly close encounters with huge prehistoric-looking beasts. The other specializes in offering people terrifyingly close encounters with great heights and speed, via thrill rides.
Now the two thrilling brands will bring the things they do best to one place called the Gator Spot. Gators and roller coasters: great together.
On Jan. 20, Fun Spot and Gatorland are planning a groundbreaking for a new 15,000 square-foot attraction at Fun Spot's I-Drive location, that'll feature some of Gatorland's giant gators (they're promising 12 footers). While some places in the tourist corridor, like the outlet malls, have photo op spots with sad baby gators with their mouths taped shut – hopefully the animals will get a little more respect at the Gator Spot – and some mini golf places keep pools of small captive gators, the parks say this will be the only gator-centric attraction on I-Drive that'll have adult gators, crocodiles and real encounters with the bitey reptiles.
To celebrate, Fun Spot
will give away free armbands to patrons from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. during the groundbreaking. You've got to be in the park to get an armband, and it's only good for use at the I-Drive location.
