Maitland’s Art & History museum complex wakes up into 2015 with a surreal dream of a show: Art and the Subconscious: Salvador Dalí & Andre Smith, which pairs enigmatic images from Dalí’s “Conquest of Cosmos” series with ethereal watercolors and abstract sculptures by the Maitland Art Center founder.

The inaugural Culture Pop party of 2015 offers a first look at this stunning show, as well as an introduction to two new Artists-in-Residence, Masha Ryskin and Serge Marchetta. Also on hand, Artist-in-Action Maxwell Hartley (one of our favorite local woodworkers — yes, we have enough to have favorites) stages a pop-up art installation in the newly renovated Germaine Marvel building, and writers from the Kerouac Project engage guests in a freestyle writing game meant to unlock inner creativity. Looks like this year is going to open your mind.

6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 | Art & History Museums – Maitland, 231 E. Packwood Ave., Maitland | 407-539-2181 | artandhistory.org | $5
