New data released by EnigmaSoftware.com has revealed that Orlando and Tampa have won a place on the “most hacked cities” list. People in Orlando and Tampa, it seems, are more likely to be hit by computer hackers than anywhere else. Tampa takes the top spot on the list, with people reporting computer infections in 2014 at a rate that’s 561.81 percent higher than the national average. Orlando took the second spot at 386.91 percent higher than the national average for computer infections.

Theories abound when it comes to explaining so many instances of vulnerability, but there are no real answers yet according to SVP of Technology at EnigmaSoftware.com Patrick Morganelli. Some say the data points to high rates of porn usage, but perhaps a more likely scenario is the local demographics. With Tampa, Orlando and Miami all taking prominent spots on the “most hacked” list, has anyone considered having a talk with Nana about Internet security? The massive block of blue-haired retirees of Florida aren’t known for their Internet proficiency.

Still, don’t discount porn yet. A study by Harvard University analyzed patterns in each state and found clear variations in online porn consumption.

…[T]he most-subscribing state is Utah (where 5.47 of every 1,000 broadband households subscribed to the service at issue), while the least-subscribing state is Montana (1.92 per 1000 broadband households).
Utah is trailed by Alaska (5.03 per thousand home broadband users), Mississippi, (4.3), Hawaii, (3.61), Oklahoma (3.21), Arkansas, (3.12), North Dakota (3.05), Louisiana (3.01), Florida (3.01) and West Virginia (2.94).
