Here's something that's been long overdue: Equality Florida today announced
the launch of a new program called TransAction Florida, a program that will advocate for equality for the state's transgender community. Recently in Miami Dade County, the county commission updated its human rights ordinance to cover transgender individuals, and state Rep. Holly Raschein introduced a bill that would add gender identity and sexual orientation to Florida's nondiscrimination law.
TransAction Florida says its goals will be to develop transgender leadership in Florida, educate lawmakers about equality legislation, provide resources on transgender issues for workplaces and classrooms, increase advocacy for the transgender community across the state and – this one is big – develop a transgender resource guide. Lack of resources (or at least lack of awareness of resources that do exist) is one of the things we frequently hear is lacking for the transgender community.
The TransAction advisory board will be made up of the following people:
Ashley Brundage - Tampa
Petra Doan - Tallahassee
Gina Duncan - Orlando
Michael Keefe - St. Petersburg
Morgan Laisch - Orlando
Aryah Lester - Miami
Arianna Lint - Wilton Manors
Bishop S.F. Makalani-Mahee - Fort Lauderdale
Margeaux Mutz - Tallahassee
Tobias Packer - Miami
Tricia Russell - Jacksonville
