Enough with the Nutcrackers and Christmas Carols, already! Yes, everybody loves the old tropes, but they get trotted out ad nauseam this time of year. What this holiday season needs is more drag shows, camp and ridiculous theatrics – Michael Wanzie to the rescue! This year at the Footlight Theatre, Wanzie stages his own take on a Christmas pageant, Wanzie’s Orange Blossom Trail Living Nativity Christmas Spectacular. The story goes something like this: Mrs. Henderson and the North Orange Blossom Trail Beautification Society are trying to clean up the neighborhood, so they set out to produce a living nativity for the holidays to raise funds. They decide to hire local performers for the pageant, and they hire Wanzie to cast it – but, shocker, the local performers who populate that portion of OBT aren’t your run-of-the-mill Marys and Josephs. Doug “Taffy Pinkerbox” Ba’aser, Rich “Gidget Galore” Kuntz, Blue Star, John deHaas and more star in this twisted musical, which runs for just five performances. Sweet baby Jesus, somebody created a holiday show for adults – it’s a Christmas miracle.

Through Saturday, Dec. 22 | 7:30 p.m. | The Footlight Theatre at the Parliament House, 410 N. Orange Blossom Trail | 407-425-7571 | wanzie.com | $20
