After spending weeks recovering in a local hospital from gunshot wounds he received during an altercation with police outside Vixen Bar on Aug. 14, Kody Roach has been booked into the Orange County Jail. Roach, 23, was thrown out of the downtown Orlando bar for being belligerent and brandishing a gun. He banged on the door of the bar to be let back in, and in the meantime, calls were made to 911 to report that somebody had fired shots in the bar (it turns out, Roach's gun was not loaded). Police attempted to subdue Roach, but he did not comply with orders to get down on the ground, and a Taser failed to take him down. Roach allegedly reached toward his waistband, and one of the officers opened fire. He shot nine times, hitting Roach and also killing a woman who was inside the bar.
Roach was initially charged with illegally carrying a concealed firearm, but police later also charged him with first degree murder (because Roach's actions led police to accidentally shoot the woman in the bar), armed burglary and armed trespassing. His murder charge has since been downgraded to second-degree murder.
