As much as I agree with Ace of Base and ritually don't turn around, I'd be lying if I didn't cop to my vulnerability to all things '90s. So when I got an event invite this morning advertising a show called "1994 - a one-night event celebrating music and culture from the year," well I don't want ya seein' me cry, but I wept with joy. Not only are they dipping into a varied song selection from these artists revealed so far: Veruca Salt ("Seether"), Green Day ("Longview"), Nine Inch Nails ("Closer"), Dinosaur Jr. ("Feel the Pain"), Pearl Jam ("Spin the Black Circle"), NOFX ("Don't Call Me White"), Weezer ("Undone - The Sweater Song") and TLC ("Creep"). (All songs in parenthesis are examples of 1994 singles and not necessarily the songs the bands will be covering), but they will also have a Weezer "Blue Album"-themed photobooth and this incredible retro website you have to click to believe.
It's at Will's Pub, 9 p.m. Saturday, August 2, $8-$10. (RSVP)
Participating bands will hopefully be donning dark lipstick, neons and designer threads boasting loud Lacoste or Gucci labels, and include the Pauses, Wet Nurse and the New Lows. To prepare you beotches for this bangin' night that's poised to be all that and a bag of chips, please enjoy this playlist:
P.S. Have you listened to You Blew It!'s "Surf Wax America" cover yet?
