It takes a lot of balls burglarizing a home while residents are still inside, but it appears that’s what happened in West Orlando Thursday morning.Erin McCord, 26, returned with several pals to her apartment on Westgate Drive after a Magic game and a night on the town. They didn’t get back until 4 a.m., at which point everyone passed out. Five friends slept on a mattress in the living room while McCord dozed with her boyfriend in a bedroom. At about 7 a.m. she awoke and discovered her front door was wide open. Further revelations included two missing sets of car keys. According to a police report, McCord was “pretty sure” that she left them on a desk between the living room and kitchen. A Samsung phone worth $200 was also missing, as well as two sets of Charlotte Rouse sunglasses of the same value, which were plucked from a purse in the living room. Other details are flummoxing, like the fact that McCord’s black Nissan Altima was still in the parking lot, or that cash laying next to the keys went untouched. The total estimated value of the score was $440 -- all stolen within feet of seven unconscious people who we can only speculate were trapped in the coma of drunken slumber. Either that or someone felt really stupid when they checked their pockets later.
