Remember all those adorable stray dogs who were trotting around Sochi during this year's Winter Olympics? The lovable mutts were spotted constantly around the city's newly constructed hotels and bus stops; occasionally they even managed to interrupt athletic competition. Well, they were spotted constantly until Russian authorities began rounding up and executing the Sochi dogs. After that news broke several western animal organizations stepped in to see what they could do about rescuing the orphan animals. Now, thanks to the combined efforts of England's LAPA and the Daytona Beach chapter of the ARNI Foundation, 18 puppies are saying dasvidaniya to Sochi in favor of Central Florida's sunny shores.

Five of the canines (who already have Western names like Austen, Chocolate, Spot, and Honey) are expected to arrive this evening while the rest need more time to gain the proper strength for their 5,700 mile journey. Every dog will require a 30 day quarantine period before release for adoption, but interested parties are still encouraged to contact ARNI if they'd like an authentic Russian pooch in their lives. Be forewarned: you may not return your dog if it starts making "In Soviet Russia, dog walks you!" jokes.
