Please, a little respect. Bob “Bobcat” Goldthwait is no longer the trembling raw nerve of his early film performances (Police Academy, Tapeheads, Scrooged), nor the coked-up screech of his ’80s standup. Instead, in recent years, he has flowered on the other side of the camera. After writing/directing/starring in the brilliant Shakes the Clown, in which he both defiled Florence Henderson and contended with opera’s Pagliacci for most classic tragic clown, he let loose a scary tidal wave of weird genius; his last three films – Sleeping Dogs Lie, World’s Greatest Dad and God Bless America – more than delivered on Shakes’ promise. Still, you might wonder whether, in this Improv Orlando standup run, he can sew together quavering, pitch-control-challenged Bobcat with self-assured, evolved Bobcat and still be funny. That’s no simple task, but don’t worry. The jokes are less vicariously terrifying, but the voice is still damn weird. – Jessica Bryce Young
