Treading in that delightful sonic space between sci-fi-style intrigue and alone-in-the-dark paranoia, the new solo project that local guy Geramy Layug has branded as Your Favorite Color feels like we’ve landed on Darren Aronofsky’s 2009 version of the moon – if only he’d gotten Wayne Coyne to score it, instead of his go-to composer Clint Mansell. With haunting undertones and sparse percussion, the music relies on rhythmic waves over washed out vocals to set listeners swaying. It’s nice to experience a subtler rhythm effort from Layug, who we more typically see banging on the drums behind Orlando dream-pop band Saskatchewan. But it’s probably the loops of bright keyboard runs that contribute most to the spooky sound he’s going for and provide an extra dimension that should be right up the alley of any chillwave fans looking for a reason to head out this week. – Ashley Belanger
