A grinning Mayor Buddy Dyer and Festival Republic's Melvin Benn convened at Gibson showroom about 15 minutes ago to announce what they'd already leaked: the first annual Orlando Calling lineup, to be played out Nov. 12-13 at the Citrus Bowl.
America the Beautiful was the theme as Benn hammered home his pride in bringing his particular expertise to yet another continent, one that, according to Dyer, "doesn't have many music festivals." Um, huh?
"The American cultural experience" is what Benn hopes to convey with this lineup that could've easily been cribbed off Dyer's iTunes playlist. "This is America," Benn declared. No, Melvin, this is Orlando. Or, actually, this is what you and the Mayor think is Orlando. Tickets will range from $80 for a single day to $150 plus taxes and fees for both days. Reasonable? OK, sure. Because we must, let's do this:
Saturday, Nov. 12:
The Avett Brothers
Iron and Wine
Jenny and Johnny
Drive By Truckers
Justin Townes Earle
Renee & the Translators
Sunday, Nov. 13:
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
Warren Haynes Band
Robert Randolph & the Family Band
Los Lonely Boys
Justin Townes Earle (again)
The David Mayfield Parade
